Having Nothing But a Good Time (while we raise money to fight homelessness)

This past weekend was a full one for the staff and volunteers of NDCO. Spending the entire weekend  at the New Amway Center was not only truly enjoyable and exciting but was hard work as well.  We want to take this time to give a special thanks to Xavier, Nicki, Ameerah and Kristin Broadway with her team from One Brick Orlando for truly making the past weekend yet another fundraising success.

Here are some weekend highlights:

  • We had such a good turnout at Friday’s Predator’s game that our organizations percentage of the concession’s proceeds totaled over $700.
  • With the help of One Brick Event Leader Kristin Broadway and her group which totaled eight committed and hardworking people, NDCO had not one, or two, but three concessions stands at yesterdays Magic vs. Bulls game.  We are still calculating the our fundraiser total for this one

This weekend, the good times are scheduled to continue with the Lady Gaga concert on Friday, April 15th and the Magic Playoff game on Sunday April 17th. To sign up as a volunteer for these or future events simply send an email to info@ndcoseminole.org or go to our Volunteer page and fill out the registration form.

Onward and Upward…Fundraising Success and New Website Coming Soon!

Thanks to God and the help of our kindhearted and hardworking volunteers, New Directions is moving onward and upward in its fight against homelessness. Those of you that have been supporting us, following our blog and tweets know that we have been diligent in our strides toward raising money and networking to better serve our clients and community.

Giving Back

We are happy to say that our fundraising efforts are finally taking flight.  So far, from the two events we have worked at the Amway Center, we have been able to put $600 back into our organization’s cause.  We still have 5 more events scheduled for this month and look forward to investing the funds in the care and development of those in need.

New Site Launch

It’s hard to believe that only a month ago, NDCO was seemingly invisible on the web. The launching of this site  helped us gain visibility and  brought us more support than we could have imagined.  When we launched this, our www.ndcoseminole.wordpress.com, site, it was meant to be temporary, but we had no idea that things would turn around so quickly.

Once again, through the power of networking and support from those who believe in our cause, NDCO will be launching its brand new, self-hosted and official website, next Monday April 11th. We would give you the web address now, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise.

If you haven’t subscribed to our blog, now would be a good time considering you don’t want to miss out on future information regarding our new site.   Once the new site is up and running, you will have an option of subscribing to its RSS feed and stay up-to-date with NDCO events and volunteer opportunities.

NDCO Takes its Fight Against Homelessness to the New Amway Center

Starting Friday April 1st, NDCO will be taking its fundraising efforts to the next level by volunteering at the new Amway Center.  Though the idea is still very  new to us, we are excited about being allowed the opportunity to be at the heart of the Amway Center’s many events while raising money to continue our fight against homelessness.

Who Doesn’t Love Concessions?

We cannot think of a single person that does not like or smile at the idea of a concession stand.  Well, all of us here at NDCO are definitely grinning from ear to ear about the concession stands in the Amway Center because we will be operating one for each of several much anticipated, exciting, adrenaline charged, and, not to mention, sold-out events.

NDCO April Amway Events Calendar

NDCO is confirmed for the following events:

  • 4/1 @ 7pm – Orlando Magic vs. Charlotte Bobcats, 7pm
  • 4/8  @ 8pm –  The Ricky Martin Concert
  • 4/9 @ 7:30pm – Predators vs. Philadelphia Soul
  • 4/10 @1pm – Orlando Magic vs. Chicago Bulls
  • 4/15 @ 8pm – The Lady Gaga Concert
  • 4/16 @ 7pm – Orlando Magic Playoff Game
  • 4/28 @ 8pm – The Usher Concert

What Does NDCO Get Out of It?

Outside of all the fun of being at the center of action, Our organization will earn 10-12% of the concessions proceeds. The money will go towards our many programs and services like our Financial and Housing Assistance, No Dream Is Impossible Scholarship and Hip Hop Hooray Back to School Drive programs as well as  Feeding the Hungry.

How Can You Get In On the Action?

For each of the event’s listed above, NDCO is confirmed for a 7-crew member concession stand.  That  means we need 10 serious and hardworking people for the stand to run smoothly, make customers happy and earn the highest commission possible.

It’s not too late to volunteer with us for this Friday’s or future April  Amway events.  simply fill out the volunteer request form below, including the dates you would like to work, and we will be more than happy to have you along!

Homeless Children in Central Florida

A recent episode of CBS’s 60 Minutes showed local children describing in painful detail how they have had to flee their foreclosed homes, how they are sleeping in cars and taking baths in public restrooms.  It is heartbreaking and it’s happening every day in our community….
